"I just need someone to tell me what to do."

Background:

Tricia is a solopreneur running a home organizing business. She is a "do it myself" woman entrepreneur who doesn't like outsourcing business operations unless it's something she truly can't do herself.  She's not afraid of taking trainings or doing research to learn a marketing topic she needs to know more about.

Challenge:

Tricia knew she needed to prioritize two areas of her business to focus on for marketing and selling - her website and her social media presence.

She wanted to ensure she was being found on Google for relevant keywords and wasn't really sure how to influence that without hiring an SEO expert. Tricia had done some basic SEO training on her own but was stuck thinking she needed to focus first on keywords. This felt daunting since she would rather be writing about topics that are interesting to her and directly related to her life. When we spoke, she wanted to know things like:

  • What keywords should I target?

  • What am I already being found for?

  • How many keywords should I use?

  • How long should I use them before trying something new?

Tricia also knew she needed to up her social media game in order to to find new clients and stay in touch with past ones. She had every intention of doing more on social but with each passing week she would find that she only managed to post once about a client she worked with that week and the difference she made for them. Tricia felt like if she committed to any more than that she would come to despise social media and it would feel too much like an unwanted chore rather than a meaningful part of her business that she wanted to invest time and energy into.

Solution:

Step 1 - We started with a (free) 15-minute phone call to discuss Tricia's main concerns and what she wanted to achieve through working together.

Step 2 - I pulled together some website data and bullet points of what we would achieve by working together and sent it to Tricia to review prior to our next call.

Step 3 - We set up an hour-long Zoom meeting where we talked in detail about Tricia's questions and my recommendations for how she can be more strategic and structured with her website and social media efforts.

Step 4 - I sent a follow up email with the detailed plan that we had discussed. Tricia would be responsible for executing and I would be responsible for checking in regularly to see how she was progressing, what was working and what needed to be tweaked.

Step 5 - We conduct follow up check ins via email and Zoom which gives Tricia a chance to share how things are going and to ask questions that have come up as a result of the work she is doing.

Outcome:

Within months of working together, Tricia saw a noticeable uptick in her website traffic and the number of inbound leads coming from organic traffic. She also noticed that her reach was increasing to new parts of the city that she had not worked in before.

Here’s what Tricia said:

"WOW! Kristi was so good at taking all my jumbled thoughts and frustrations and turning them into actionable steps to get me where I wanted to be.

Going through this process and developing an action plan with Kristi made it easy for me to commit to without being overwhelmed. It makes me realize that what used to feel like ‘too much’ for me to handle is really much simpler now. Having someone guide me through it so I don't need to take all the tasks and blindly go through them was immensely helpful.

The accountability piece was HUGE! I enjoyed taking these tasks into my own hands and implementing them so that I could still ‘own the task’ while also having the reassurance that I wasn’t blindly trying things that wouldn’t have value. Thank you for all of your help!"
